What do we do with disappointments in our life? Usually…(a quick Google search on ‘disappointment’) we tend to ‘cope/deal with’ or ‘get over’ or even ‘distract ourselves from’ disappointments by some sort of mental/talking therapy. We try to understand, to reason, to find the answers (or coping strategy) and so on. Sometimes it works – in simple situations. Most of the time it doesn’t work long term as the roots of our ‘disappointment’ reactions (which on the surface seems in most cases be situational) actually run deep: we react to particular triggers/events/behaviours, personal for us.

Here we discuss action steps for resolving disappointment from a totally different perspective, following our discussion on our early Colourpuncture Q&A calls where we discussed Colourpuncture benefits for body and Soul, ‘hardware and software’ of our life. This is a next recording from the call.

I was asked: “How to treat disappointment with Colorpuncture?” It was a surprising and interesting question and luckily, Colourpuncture has a very specific treatment helping to resolve disappointment.

Inner Perception

Describing ‘what Colourpuncture can do for you’ I often mention that it gives us a fuller 3D picture in colours developing off our starting point: a vague fragment of a black and white 2D picture. This is very much the case here: we do not attempt to ‘find the answers’ from a conventional, ‘mental’ perspective with a talking therapy/basic self-care: all we do words-wise is: we use simple journaling to describe the situation which caused us disappointment as it happened and we also describe what we actually expected to happen. That’s all – two bullet points columns on a piece of paper – we stop at that and move to the bodywork as the body  always holds the keys.

Journaling – Colourpuncture – Dreamwork

When we want to make any body therapy – Colorpuncture including – truly work for us, we usually follow the sequence: body therapy – journalingdreamwork. Every Acupuncture or Colorpuncture point on the skin, every Dream Zone, every Reflex Zone of an ‘Ashi point’ (pain point) has a potential to heal us in its unique way. Our reactions (bodily felt senses; feelings; images; memories; insights) can be our starting point and a suggested-by-the-body journaling prompt.

This is easy and beautiful and the process can be taken even deeper with Dreamwork – relaxing, reconnecting and realigning in mind, body and soul. A disappointment is ultimately a perception issue: we expected something different from what went on in reality, most often either from another person or ourself or an event/project etc. Here we need to get to clarity with journaling first: we need to see these ‘expected’ vs ‘reality’ columns written on our journal page. We do not need to analyse anything (unless something obvious suddenly surfaces taking us into some additional exploration). All we need is just describe, clearly (honestly) and briefly, the main points. And then our 2D-into-3D, a fuller perception and a coloured version comes in with a very special Colourpuncture treatment called ‘the Ellipse of Perception’.

Ellipse of Perception

This beautiful treatment is often overlooked for use in Colourpuncture, mainly for the reasons of location: the center point is in the area of Acupuncture point Bladder 36: English translation: ‘(Receiving) Support’: it’s an intimate area and not every patient (or every therapist) will be comfortable using it. Although I did this treatment in the original location for my long-term patients when needed, I eventually found a way to translate this point/area into hand Reflexology/Reflex Zones of the hand using Colourpuncture-specific conversion which works very well (please ask me if you are interested using the form below).

Not only you can do it for your patients with no undressing needed but it’s easy and enjoyable to do for your self-care, in a comfortable and relaxed seated position.

I love doing my Hand Colour Reflexology as Colourpucture self-care at night, in bed, after all the day’s tasks are done and I can really relax and focus fully on what I’m feeling – in body and soul – as I’m treating the projection of this ‘perception area’ with beautiful Turquoise light. A slow Sunday morning in another good choice when you are still relaxed after a night sleep but you can of course do this at any time of the day.

I love Hand Colour Reflexology as the easiest form of self-care with Colourpuncture and have had deep relaxation and many wonderful insights both doing traditional Reflexology Zones originally designed for the feet translated into Colour Reflexology on the hands, and Colourpuncture protocols translated into the hand reflex zones using various reflex zones conversions.

Ellipse of perception combines well with Ellipses of Subconscious and Existence. The indication for the Perception ellipse amplifies the indication of other ellipse.

In Colourpuncture system, Ellipse of Perception belongs to the Endocrine pattern treatments and it is also used for Degenerative Pattern when we need to release rigid inner structures and create freedom and movement in inner perception; we use Turquoise colour – colour of the Soul – so in a way the Ellipse of Perception also serves as an Ice breaker/therapy resistance tool which supports an inner perception of our individual program, among other indications. For these reason it is also used (in combination with other ellipses) in a therapy for Burn-Out. Considering that here we are aiming on resolving and not just temporarily ‘dealing with/distracting ourselves from’ disappointment, this also makes this treatment on a Conflict Resolution side and the actual Conflict Resolution treatment can be our next choice.

Reality check: time log

I highly recommend this simple tool (which is really a bullet point journaling) when you feel you are ‘disappointed in yourself’. It is one of the simplest reality check tools and is always a real eye opener (talking about perception…). It is also a very good practical tool for better planning in future.

Time log simple: you literally log in your time in your journal as you go through your day, from the moment you open your eyes in the morning till the moment you are about to close your eyes for your night’s sleep. You simply enter: ‘coffee’; ‘emails’; ‘main project’; ‘walk’; ‘family time’; ‘movie’ etc with the start and end time. That’s it. You can be more specific of course when you want to see a relative time investment for equally important projects for example but this is the next step. The first step is just a simple reality check and so potential adjustment of your expectations.

When you practice logging in your time, you will start seeing your days in a very different light once you do it first time (a couple of weeks in ideal to get a better idea of your typical day) or at some other point when you may decide to become more intentional with your time, to create space for a particular project and so on.

Don’t expect more than the others can give

I first heard this simple truth from my older sister, a practical expert in making friends and maintaining connections 🙂 It was a revelation for me back then…I was still in my ‘if only we all try our best ….’ (read: try harder and with a full intention). In a way it is always a relief to even just remotely accept the thought – when somebody behaves so infuriatingly far from our expectations – that this behaviour can be indeed their best behaviour. Best for them, taking into account their upbringing, state of physical and mental health, their understanding of the world, themselves, human relationships; their level of feeling ‘in resource’, supported, accepted and understood and so on (here we don’t talk about mental health problem related destructive behaviour which is a subject to completely different therapy interventions; we talk about general human nature – with all its beauty and faults – which we generally encounter in our life…).

Again, no further tools needed: we just need to get this idea into our awareness field and observe where is will lead us.

Any questions – please get in touch using the form below, I’m happy to share what works for my patients and my own self-care practices with Colourpuncture and beyond 🙂
