Wrapping Up Winter we looked at Yang-to-Yin questions to be used as journaling prompts for reflection, recollection, contemplation and insights: we wanted something to happen; something was going on in a real life; there was a wider long term background; something was needing to happen and something was wanting to happen. These were in a way or questions – or requests – to Life. Then life happened…and we now we can tune into observation – what did the Life answered…

Just to repeat, here are the questions – from surface to depth; from most Yang to most Yin:

  • Q1: What I want/believe should be happening (most YANG question)
  • Q2: What is happening (reality check: repeat things on a daily basis)
  • Q3: What has been happening (a long-term background)
  • Q4: What is needing to happen (rest more – or show up for your life’s work more)
  • Q5: What is wanting to happen (most YIN question, a sensing into a small inner voice).

So logically, the next level question is: ‘what actually happened – or what happened instead: what were the learnings and the gifts from unexpected life’s developments?’. This is beyond Yin and Yang, this is a result of dynamic interactions of these energies. This question looks similar to Q2 ‘what is going on in real life’ but it’s not the same: Q2 is a daily reality check; what happened instead is an attempt of a synthesis on our part.

By attempt I don’t mean a conscious effort but rather an ‘OK, all went exactly as I planned’ or – in many cases – turns out to be a relaxation into ‘OK…what I’m seeing now has nothing to do with what I wanted, what was needed – and it seems at odds with my daily reality and a general background. I don’t understand what’s going on and the situation I found myself in seems to be far from original intentions and even a common sense’.

So…if you find yourself observing the latter, what happened instead for you? What are the learning and the gifts upon some thoughtful and objective ‘unpacking’?  This is very helpful when your life situation is complex; when there are other people closely involved and the relationships are complex; when there are several lines of your work or several very different lines in your life in general and there are complex relationships between these areas of work or these areas of your life.

In other words, when we have a system of some sort where we are either an element or seemingly a manager (when we talk about lines of work). However, often we find that elements we are supposed to manage, have their own logic of interactions and development. Why are we looking at the core sense of our Winter now? We are in the new, fresh but very clearly Yang season – just past the Spring Equinox – and looking back at our Winter Questions (and answers from Life) we can see much better what and how whatever presented itself in our life instead we can take into some development in Yang seasons of Spring and Summer.

In the video above you hear from Angela Mendes and myself how our winter experiences – interspersed with our questions to Life and Life’s answers – shaped up our current reality and how we use our self-care practices supported and nurtured our inner lives and the external ‘what is’.

What’s about you? Are you finding yourself at a logical completion of a nicely planned and orderly unravelled situation – or in a completely different place? If this is the latter, what’s happened instead for you – what are your learning and your gifts and what are you going to take with you into the Yang season of spring and summer?

Get in touch with us -Angela or Irina – using the form below, if you have questions or are interested in any of self-care practices we mention, we are happy to answer your questions!
