End-of-winter journaling prompts on how to wrap up your Winter season with Journaling! Wrapping up our Winter we are observing the flow of our energy – how this winter will do down your memory line, your life experience. And how our winter dreams, hopes and life experiences will connect with new and fresh Yang energy of upcoming Spring-Summer to grow and create new beginnings.

We will start by looking to reflect upon our experience from 3 points in time:

1) How did you feel at the beginning of December? What were your thoughts, your plans, you hopes and wishes for the winter?

2) Going one step back, one step earlier from the actual start of winter in December, how did you feel arriving to the point, the start of December – how was your year? Winter is for rest, reflection, relaxation and calm inner search – what did you feel you needed to rest from and reflect upon and find some answers for?

3) Fast forward to the present time, the end of winter, end of February – how do you feel now?

The level of questions from surface to depth and from most Yang to most Yin:

  • What I want/believe should be happening (most YANG question)
  • What is happening (reality check: repeat things on a daily basis)
  • What has been happening (a long-term background)
  • What is needing to happen (rest more – or show up for your life’s work more)
  • What is wanting to happen (most YIN question).

So now looking at the winter months – December, January, February – how did all these more conscious, awareness-level feelings and thoughts manifested during your winter – and what did you feel was wanting to happen during winter, either in addition to your plans and wishes or instead of? So, what did you want to happen, what was happening in reality and what was wanting to happen (regardless if it happened or not, but you sensed the impulse, the longing, the urge, the energy)?

In the beginning of December, with winter being an ultimate Yin, we were invited to go deep inside to rest and reflect; now in between the seasons, we are slowly starting to tap, to move into this very young, very new and fresh Yang energy so it’s an important transition between the seasons which often sets the tone for the entire year.

With journaling we are aiming to create an intentional closure for the winter season and the start of the flow into the Spring and the fresh Yang energy of action, engaging more with the outer world and other people and projects.

This call continues the theme of journaling around Yin-Yang energies in our life which we started in October – back in October the call was around Equinox time so it was about Yin-Yang balance.

Now, we are at the very end of Winter – and Winter as the season is the ultimate Yin time; Winter is governed by the Water element in TCM and with that, this is time to stop, get comfortable, and ask questions:

  • STOP: pause to mirror a deep rest in Nature
  • GET COMFORTABLE: rest and reflexion to gather and conserve energy
  • FEED: deep nourishment on all levels and quality Soul feeding
  • ASK questions: introspection and deep questions, Soul searching including facing our unresolved fears and anxieties
  • DREAM: dream and contemplate, not act.

A long way and a short cut to what was wanting to happen during your Winter

A short cut is definitely a dreamwork for me:

  • what have your night dreams have been about lately?
  • are they in same theme or different from your typical/recurrent/repeat dreams?

Even just recording your dreams as they occur helps as even without doing any dreamwork you are sensing seeing, unraveling the current theme in your inner life through your dreams.

Long way: I read my winter months journal and I’m tidying my notes now and as you read your writing you organically, very intuitively start reading between the lines and so into a real ‘what is needing, what is wanting to happen’.

Yielding to the path of least resistance

I would like to leave you with the visual. Yielding to the path of least resistance is another Yin quality – it is the downward quality of the winter water element. It’s the elemental quality: Fire goes upward; water goes downwards. Water is the element with downward seeking energy on account of water seeking the path of least resistance to the most downward point. The energy of the water element is down, down, down. Water wants to find lowest point and the earth, which means water and earth are even more Yin.

Stay with this visual, see what comes for you personally, see this energy of yours, your Yin to go down like water searching for the path of least resistance, what do you find at this point?
