Based on my Acupuncture and Colourpuncture clinical experience I found that a permanent presence of pain of any kind (physical; emotional; physiological; spiritual), can be a problem; and this goes much farther than simply ‘pain = a highly unpleasant experience’.

When pain of any kind is permanently present, the main focus of our body-mind is on pain management so we can’t grow and evolve; we can’t expand and move on – we are busy servicing the pain. A lot of our energy or Qi is engaged into this servicing of the pain (inner conflict; difficult feeling such as guilt or shame; generally confused inner state due to overwhelm etc) on a regular basis so there isn’t much energy left for vitally important functions of the body – including an optimal functioning of Immune system.

Habitual experience of physical pain and ache can really muddle our perception and we may get so used to pain that we may miss import signs of a serum problem; also when there is an improvement in a course of a healing process but we are ‘conditioned’ by our life experience to experience pain often we may discount first signs of improvement and not go long enough along the correctly chosen healing path.

When we keep emotional or psychological pain often it comes from a belief that this is a ‘noble’ thing to do. However – how practical this is especially if we already took full responsibility for our part, corrected whatever mistakes we made and generally dealt with the past experience itself? Here is a really good journalling prompt:

  • What is NOT happening while we are busy being consumed by our guilt, shame, inner conflict, overwhelm, conflict stress etc? What we are not doing or not giving to ourselves, our family and the wider world being caught up in a repeat cycle of self inflicted ‘noble’ suffering?

This raises the question of how we can deal with our pain – here we are talking primarily about pain which is not physical; ‘pain’ = highly unpleasant or difficult experience; emotion; feeling; state. NB: if you experienced some really unfortunate or dramatic events, please get professional help; everything suggested here is for self-care when the level of ‘pain’ is suited for personal development work and practicing complementary therapies such as Acupressure and Colourpuncture. Please be responsible and use your judgment as to what level of help and support you need.

So how can we transform the pain into something different; something useful; how can we extract the lessons which this pain or highly unpleasant or difficult experience; emotion; feeling brought into our life. In the video above I give some general suggestions; for your daily self-care with journaling you can practice some simple journaling exercises – you can use stream of consciousness or list or mind map journaling – depending on what feels better suited. Any Journalling will bring you much more clarity

This type of reflective journaling is suited for any time of year; however I feel that it’s take on an added significance as an end of year journaling based on your experiences this year which is drawing to a close. And to balance our reflections of the year, we can also do some journaling on joy = any pleasant; comforting, sunny and warm experiences or feelings which happened this year; making them remembered well, either as a cherished memory or a good idea which worked well and which can be planned to be repeated.

I love journaling, it gives me so much insight and clarity every single time and it is so simple and easy to learn and master; and I particularly like end-of-year reflective journaling – it feels so special, it makes us to remember the year with everything we have had in it: pains and joys, struggles and miracles. Each single year is a building block of the house of our life experience; each one is unique, each one – lived fully and integrated well – gives us a chance to become better at being a human.
